Wow… first comment! Amy, you win the prize!
I just recently completed another small dish. This time, with a checkerboard pattern. This one worked out rather better than my previous dish. In part, it was because I got the timing right this time, but it is also because I used two layers (the checkerboard is one layer, and there is a clear cap layer on top which helped to force the checkerboard pieces to fuse together).
Incidentally, I had a question in e-mail about this: the checkerboard is actually made of separate 1 inch square pieces of glass, individually cut. Sadly, I don’t have the handy tool to make these kinds of cuts quickly, so I had to do it the old fashion (that is, tedious) way.
A little while ago, I tried to do a dish with a single layer of tack fused pieces. It did not turn out too well—as I over-fired it a little—and the pieces contracted a little with the heat. Also, there was a bit of oil or something on the glass at the last stage, which caused the smudge you can see. Still, the way the pieces stayed connected turned out kind of interesting… so I thought I would post the picture anyway.
Welcome to the Tail Recursive blog. What can you expect to find here? Well, to start with, I’ll just be posting some personal stuff and pictures of my latest glass “projects.” At least for a little while, there won’t be anything of interest here for someone who doesn’t know me. Eventually, more technical stuff will start to show up here.
